Bosque con rayos de sol

Hello

Nature has always been at my doorstep. I spent much of my childhood outdoors, playing with my sisters and cousins, and it felt natural to connect with the environment around me.

My Italian grandfather often woke me early in the morning to listen to the sounds of the birds, ensuring I developed an appreciation for the beauty of nature from a young age.

Later, as a biologist, one of my first projects was co-authoring a small field guide to the birds of Curitiba’s urban parks. However, like most Brazilian capitals, Curitiba was rapidly expanding. After many years living abroad, I revisited the city and was shocked to see how urbanization was an increasing pressure on the remaining natural spaces. Despite this, I noticed that people still longed for a connection to nature.

Over time, through my experiences with nature in several countries, I realized that proximity to nature offers more than just ecological benefits. It is deeply meaningful—almost spiritual—and essential for our mental health and well-being.

I believe we can foster a deeper awareness of green living through pollution reduction, wildlife protection, and natural resource conservation. In our daily lives, we can also help reduce our ecological footprints.

In fact, we need an eco-social model based on trust, empathy, and collaboration, rather than the overexploitation of the natural resources. While this might sound exaggerated, we must often question the civilization model we have created, and rethink our relationship with the planet to ensure our continued existence on this remarkable Earth.

“Wake up, Silvana, it’s already daytime.          "Acorda Silvana, que é dia.
It’s seven o’clock and the sun has risen.            São 7 horas e o Sol já raiou.
The little birds have already built their nest      Os passarinhos já fizeram seus ninhos
On the porch of your bungalow.”                       Na varanda do teu bangalô."

My grandfather often woke me up with this song.

EssenceSilvana

Of Latin origin, Silvana means "of the forest" or "from the forest." It’s a feminine, nature-inspired name that evokes images of serene woods and the tranquility of the natural world.

I am deeply grateful to my parents for choosing the name Silvana for me.
